Karen Sinclair is a self-taught, multi-disciplined artist from Feilding.
Her artistic journey has been relatively short, some 10 years. Whilst on a family holiday at Lake Tarawera, her then father-in-law, who is a watercolour artist, invited Karen to join him for a painting session at the lakeside. She produced my first piece of art and she was hooked. At that moment, Karen became an artist.
Throughout her practice, Karen has enjoyed many styles and mediums, but her “thing” seems to be realism. Lately, her work has included realist depictions of bees and especially birds, emerging from ambient abstract backgrounds which evoke the ‘feeling’ of Aotearoa’s pre-colonial native bush landscape: untouched, moody and atmospheric.
