Discover Our Have‑a‑Go Groups: Creativity for Everyone
If you’ve been looking for a relaxed, friendly space to create, experiment, and connect with others, our Have‑a‑Go Groups are the perfect place to start. These sessions run throughout the week and are open to all skill levels - whether you’re a total beginner or a seasoned maker wanting some company while you work.
Each group has its own flavour, but they all share the same spirit: come along, have a go, and enjoy the creative process.
Weekly Have‑a‑Go Schedule
Mondays: Embroiderers & Needlework Artists — 1–3 PM (fortnightly)
Tuesdays: The Mixed Media Makers — 10:00–12:00 PM
Wednesdays: Pastels & Washes Group — 10:00–12:00 PM (Upstairs)
Wednesdays: Te Raranga Roopu — Our Weaving Group — 1–3 PM
Thursdays: The Colour Crew — 10:00–12:00 PM
Fridays: Connor’s Creative Crew — 10:00–12:00 PM
Saturdays: The Saturday Studio — 1–3 PM
Whether you love textiles, paint, mixed media, or simply want to try something new, there’s a group waiting for you.
How to Join a Have‑a‑Go Group
Getting involved is easy. Just follow these simple steps:
Bring something to work on, along with any materials you’d like to use.
If you’re new or unsure, chat with one of our volunteers — we may have pencils and paper available to get you started.
Say hello and introduce yourself. We’re a friendly bunch and love welcoming new faces.
Offer a koha (usually around $3) to help support the space and shared resources.
Help yourself to a drink and a biscuit from the kitchen.
Tidy your space when you’re done so it’s ready for the next group.
Most importantly: relax, create, and enjoy the company of our creative community.
These groups aren’t about perfection - they’re about connection, exploration, and the simple joy of making something with your hands. Come along, try something new, and become part of our vibrant creative whānau.
